I've just watched the film "Anvil - The Story of Anvil", a great Rockumentary, the true story of the metal band Anvil which didn't make it to top in 80's. The core of the members Lips(Vo./Guitar) and Robb(Drums) are still best friends who started the band together at 14, they are now in their 50s.Because of their dedication and passion for what they're doing and the true friendship they share, the film is not just about music or be in a band, it's a lesson of life too. The whole thing was actually pretty deep.
I laughed and cried.... it was so touching, there were so many bits that I emphasized them. The reason why I'm in bands, but also the reality of being a musician is not as easy as people think. The last quote in the film by Lips says why I do what I do...
"Goes far beyond writing a good song has nothing to do with the song,
it has to do with the matter of attitude what you are willing to settle for,
who you are willing to work with, and having a good time with my life
enjoying my life.
That's the most expensive thing in life and most valuable things in life
is your relationships the people that you know,
the places you've been and the experiences you've had."

aww that's lovely.
It is hard being in a band. I left mine because my friendship with my cousin and the singer was more important than the little bickering arguments we had, driving us apart.
It was like a marriage, and I thought a seperation on good terms was far better than any bitter divorce.
I still love my cousin and the rest of HTB, I love seeing them, but sometimes when I see them live it's like seeing an ex-girlfriend looking beautiful with another man. At least they're happy though.
It's bittersweet.
I really want to watch ANVIL now
being in a band defo is not as romantic as most people think, you have to deal with a lot of bullshit and frustration but i couldn't do without a band either, i'd go nuts, rehearsal and gigs are so liberating.
haven't seen this docu but i'll give it a shot when i find it ! last rock docu i watchted was beijing bubbles about punk in china, musicians are starving but they don' care about regular boring jobs so they're willing to pay the price for not just 'following' everyone else.
Totally! Loved that movie. Happy New Year!!
